The Decal Source client Chris Rice has been drawn to the world of motorsports since childhood. By the age of 10, he has his sleeves rolled up, helping his father and his uncle build late-model stock cars. Knowing that the industry would always have his attention, he sought a career in racing while in high school, quickly landing his first job as a mechanic for Jeff Burton’s stock team. His teenage and young adult years were spent at the track, learning the ins and outs of NASCAR and honing the skills he’d need to be a leader in this fast-paced industry.
You could say the rest is history.
Today, as Competition Director for NTS Motorsports, and Crew Chief of the No. 31 Chevrolet for NTS Motorsports in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, Rice knows a thing or two about developing talented drivers and fielding cars in a variety of racing series.
As a long-time client of The Decal Source, we asked him a few questions about what it takes to make his job happen.
What does a Competition Director’s job entail?
As the Competition Director for NTS Motorsports, I am responsible for the nuts and bolts – literally and figuratively. Everything that has to come together to get both the cars and drivers ready for race day, I oversee. I’m not limited to one area of racing. I get to be involved with the full picture, which makes it even more rewarding when we score a win.
What have you learned about vehicle graphics and wraps?
Wraps and graphics are so important because they are seen by millions of fans. The quality not only reflects the corporate sponsors but our organization as well. It’s no small task to ensure each vehicle looks great and performs well for every event, but that’s why it’s so important to have a graphics partner we can count on.
